About Us

1. Profile of Migrant Space
Over time, extremist narratives and propaganda have developed and intensively use all kinds of digital communication tools. There is also evidence of people taking extremist perspectives and being radicalized through online interactions. Therefore, it is important to provide an alternative narrative to the digital space that serves as a deterrent to the public and also provides space for the public to discuss this issue. Narrative plays a very important role in the process of recruiting Indonesian Migrant Workers (PMI) into the world of extreme violence/VE. The "narrative" referred to is a fragment of a 'tale' or 'stories' used by individuals or terrorist groups in verbal and non-verbal form, for example oral narratives, texts, images, videos and certain symbols related to certain themes and to describe an event that occurred. occurs with the aim of increasing understanding, propaganda that makes migrant workers dare to provide support to terrorist groups or networks. As a former Indonesian migrant worker who used to work in Hong Kong, I felt like I wanted to take part in working together to raise awareness of the cases that befell Indonesian PMI, one of which was Ika Puspitasari, this PMI was caught in a terrorism case that started in the digital world.
With these facts, and also cases of terrorism involving Indonesian migrant workers everywhere, I learned that the digital world can provide both benefits and dangers if it is not accompanied by literacy for its users. Migrant Space (Rumi) is here to answer the function of digital literacy among Indonesian migrant workers. Becoming a mobile application with a digital literacy program, becoming one of the largest communities that unites Indonesian migrant workers from wherever they are, making it easier to adapt in terms of culture, behavior, and liaison between migrant workers and stakeholders and professionals so that PMIs have a safe environment. physically and psychologically in carrying out their duties as PMI until the contract ends and they return to their homeland.

“I am a 'product of migration': in England and Australia as a student and today in Singapore as a professional aware that there is no single reason why people migrate and this phenomenon is inevitable in the future. "This media is expected to make migration a transformational process that has a positive impact on the perpetrator, the country left behind or the country of migration destination."

Chief Executive Officer & Co-Founder
Ani Ema Susanti
"Being an Indonesian Migrant Worker (PMI) is not the end of our career, as a former migrant worker, I had the opportunity to study, graduate from psychology and film school, and then become an impact director because the films I directed had a big impact on society. With these provisions, I hope that the Migran Room (Rumi) will become 'impact media' which will unite fellow migrant workers to grow together to increase their capacity to the final threshold, so that migrant workers have faces of success and pride, both for themselves and their families. as well as the homeland."

Chief Creative Officer
Ridho Dwi Ristyanto
“Since 2013, I have entered the world of film and pursued education in the film department at the Indonesian Institute of the Arts Surakarta. During this journey, I succeeded in creating more than 16 films, both documentary and fiction, with the main focus as a film editor. However, starting at the end of 2021, I started to enter the world of directing, and one of my works, “Back to the Point,” was produced in early 2023. This film has become a source of inspiration in the world of communications in Southeast Asia, adopted by UNODC as material important in various communication strategy workshops.
"My vision as Chief Creative Officer at RUMI is to transform inspiring stories from fellow migrant workers into audio visual products that are rich in messages, creative and light to enjoy."

Head of Development
Arif Budi Setyawan
“I am a person who has been an admirer of one of the products of migration, namely the gathering of jihadists from various parts of the world in Afghanistan in the 80s. Some of the jihadists came from Indonesia and then when they returned to Indonesia, they spread the narrative of 'global jihad' which influenced people like me so much that I had to go to prison because I was involved in a terror group movement.
Since March 2018, together with Ruangobrol.id, I have started carrying out 'penance', namely explaining to the public about the dangers of radicalism, the ways in which it can spread, and how to prevent it through writing and action. The books entitled "Internetistan: Jihad Today" and "Waiting for the Return" are two of my published works. Apart from that, I became the main character in the documentary film "The Mentors" and the short film "The Terror's Dot Connector" which can be used as a tool for campaigns to prevent terrorism in society.
"Now, as the Head of Development ofruangmigran.id, I want to work further in developing RUMI into a digital space that can produce inspiring works and positive ideas from Indonesian Migrant Workers."
